About

Welcome to Insight-Psychotherapy. My name is Sheila Bains and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a background in Early Childhood Education who provides psychotherapy and counselling to children, youth, teens, adults and families. I recognize that the decision to seek support can be a difficult one to make and can be a great place to start if you are wanting to see changes in your everyday life, relationships, yourself, or if you are just seeking a safe place to talk. I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure clients are fully involved in the therapeutic process of their journey. I have extensive knowledge and experience in developmental ages and stages and use a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities in supporting individuals and families.

I specialize in supporting issues related to anxiety, depression, anger, parent-child conflict, differing parenting styles, attachment, grief and loss, bullying, and self-esteem.

Counselling and Therapy Services

Individuals and families seek psychotherapy and counselling when they are dealing with problems that have become too difficult to handle on their own and need some help and/or support. I view this as in an investment into health and well-being. The general outline of how I approach counselling is to meet with you to discuss the issues you are facing. This is your journey, and this time is dedicated to you and directed by you; you are in control of the topic of each session. Each therapist approaches counselling in a different way, so it is important that you are aware of my approach. My approach is to work from a strength-focused, client-centered perspective. This means that I believe all individuals and families have the inner strengths and resources to move through their struggles. I use a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities if I believe that they would work best for you and your family.

FAQ

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy. Individuals seek psychotherapy/counselling when they are finding that their mood, behaviors, thoughts and feelings are starting to infringe on their everyday lives and are wanting to see changes in their life, relationships, and themselves, or just have a safe place to talk.

Is Psychotherapy covered by Private Health Benefits?

Yes. Some private health benefits/insurance plans do cover Psychotherapy under extended plans. Other will only cover Registered Psychologist and/or Social Workers. Given that I am supervised under a Psychological Associate, your claims should be covered by your health/insurance plan.

You may also want to find out how many sessions your plan covers.

** Please contact your Private Health Benefit/Insurance Provider to see what their requirements are for coverage.

Are sessions confidential?

Confidentiality and Limits to Confidentiality

An important part of counselling is making sure that what you and your family bring into the session is kept private and confidential. Confidentiality is an important part of counselling and you can feel secure and comfortable to talk about anything you wish. My commitment to you and your family is to maintain this confidentiality, with only a few exceptions. Please feel free to contact me to discuss this further.
